44e The
J.D. Price Accent Database |
|
The JDP version in BibleWorks is similar to the WTM version with Accent Sensitive Searching turned on. The difference is that (1) the accent codes are from the work of Dr. J.D. Price and (2) you do not have to have Accent Sensitive searching enabled to use it. Just make JDP your search version.
The JDP accent codes are laid out somewhat differently than the WTM. Instead of two sections separated by a plus sign (primary codes + secondary codes) there are four. The JPD codes look like this:
Primary Codes + Secondary Codes + Accent Codes + Qere/Kethib Code
All but the Accent Codes are the same as for the normal WTM database. The JDP Accent codes come as a pair of characters. Each pair represents one accent. The codes are case sensitive. They are as follows:
Each accent has a two letter code: the first letter
identifies the accent name, the second letter
identifies the accents hierarchic rank and whether the accent functions near or
remote:
For the prose books, the second letter means:
0 = no accent
a = Rank-5 : conjunctive accents
b = Rank 4, near : Geresh, Legarmeh
B = Rank 4, remote: Pazer, Great Telisha
c = Rank-3, near : Tebir, Pashta, Zarqa, Yethib
C = Rank-3, remote: Rebia
d = Rank-2, near : Tiphcha
D = Rank-2, remote: Zaqeph, Great Zaqeph, Segolta, Shalsheleth
e = Rank-1, near : Silluq
E = Rank-1, remote: Athnach
The lower case code represents near disjunctives,
and upper case code represents remote disjunctives.
The following are the two letter codes for each accent.

For the present time in the poetical books, there is an ambiguity between Little
Rebia and Great Rebia. The BHS numbers do not distinguish them, and they can
only be distinguished by examining the context.
