43 Abbreviations |
|
These three-letter abbreviations, or their user-defined aliases, must be used to specify references to look up. The abbreviations are usually just the book's first three letters. The only exceptions outside the Apocrypha are "JDG" for Judges and "PHM" for Philemon.
To define your own aliases for these abbreviations, see the Options Window Book Names tab.

Targum Abbreviations
The Targum database is spread over several different versions as follows:
Text | Morphology | Content |
TAR | TAM | Mostly Onkelos and Jonathan |
PJT | PJM | PseudoJonathan |
NMT | NMM | NeoMaginalia |
FTT | FTM | FragTargums,TgSheniSuppEsther,TgTosefProphets, |
CGT | CGM | Cairo Geniza |
NFT | NFM | Neofiti |
Note that three of the CAL files are combined into one version (FTT). There is no book overlap in these files so that just saves some versions. For more details on the Targum files see the Targum Codes chapter.
All of the files but Neofiti and PesudoJonathan have data from multiple manuscripts. For some verses therefore you will see two sets of verse data. They will be separated by a superscript number which corresponds to the content tag in the CAL files for that verse. People familiar with the CAL files will understand what is meant.
Certain BibleWorks databases are not Bible versions but can be searched in the same way:

WCS contains the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms. It is broken up into the "books" WCS (Shorter Catechism), WLC (Larger Catechism), and WCF (Confession of Faith). It is accessed like any of the Bible Versions except that the WCS and WLC do not have verse numbers (e.g. WCS 1 and WLC 4 but WCF 2.1).
Note that the Greek and Hebrew Morphology Databases come in matched pairs. For example the GNM is the morphological database for the GNT (UBS 4th Greek New Testament) and the BNM is the morphological database for the BNT (NA 27th Greek New Testament). The matched pairs are:
APM/APF - Apostolic Fathers and BibleWorks Morphology
BNM/BNT - NA27 Greek New Testament and BibleWorks Morphology
GNM/GNT - UBS4 Greek New Testament and Friberg Morphology
BGM/BGT - Combined BLM/LXT and BNM/BNT
BLM/LXT - BibleWorks LXX Text and Morphology
SCM/SCR - Scrivener's Greek New Testament and Morphology
TIM/TIS - Tischendorf''s Greek New Testament and Morphology
BYM/BYZ - Robinson-Pierpont Greek New Testament Text and

WHO/WHM - This contains the Morphology for the Westcott-Hort GNT
STM/STE - Stephanus Greek New Testament Text and Morphology
VST - von Soden Greek New Testament Text (no morphology yet)
WTM/WTT - BHS Hebrew Old Testament and Morphology

TAM/TAR - Targumim (also see the Targum table above)
For display and alignment purposes the WTT, WTM, and BHT are all considered companion databases.
